CSCI 2009 DISTINGUISHED SCIENTIST LECTURE AND AWARD TERMS
OF REFERENCE Eligibility - A Canadian MD or PhD medical Scientist who has made significant contributions to new knowledge and is generally recognized in her/his field as expert, innovative, and in the forefront of research endeavour. Proposal Mechanism – Individuals should be proposed by a CSCI member. The nomination package, which includes letters of support from two (2) supporters and a current curriculum vitae should be emailed the CSCI office. The curriculum vitae must include a complete business mailing address and e-mail address. Deadline - Submissions are to be received by NOVEMBER 27, 2008. Selection Process - Review and prioritization of the candidates will be made by the CSCI Awards Committee and their recommendations will be forwarded to the CSCI Executive for ratification NOTE: NOMINATIONS AND CURRICULUM VITAES WILL BE HELD FOR CONSIDERATION BY THE COMMITTEE FOR A TOTAL PERIOD OF THREE (3) YEARS. Award and Presentation - The award will consist of a free one-year CSCI membership, a plaque and $2,000 Canadian. Return airfare and accommodation will be included when required. The presentation of this award and lecture will be at the 2009 CSCI Annual Conference (date and venue TBA). The Awardee will be expected to give a Lecture on the subject of her/his current research activity as well as write an article for the CSCI Journal Clinical and Investigative Medicine. THE
2009 DR. MEL SILVERMAN DISTINGUISHED SERVICE AWARD
Eligibility - an individual, pre-eminent in science, medicine, law, business, industry, education or politics, who has contributed significantly to the Canadian Scientific Community through the commitment of time, skills, wisdom, or funds. Proposal Mechanism - individuals should be proposed by a CSCI member. A total of two (2) letters of support must accompany the nominee's current curriculum vitae; one from the nominator and one from a seconder. This nomination package must be received at the CSCI Office no later than NOVEMBER 27, 2008. Selection Process - review and priorization of the candidates will be made by the CSCI Awards Committee and their recommendations will be forwarded to the CSCI Executive for ratification. Award - the Award will consist of an inscribed plaque, a gift, and an honorary membership to the CSCI. Return airfare and accommodation will be provided, when required. The presentation ceremony will occur at the time of the CSCI Annual Conference during the Young Investigator Forum Dinner. Eligibility - A new young investigator within eight (8) years of his/her first academic appointment who, in the estimation of his/her departmental chair, is deemed to have accomplished a significant and innovative piece of work since this initial academic appointment. Proposal Mechanism - Candidacy is achieved through nomination by a CSCI member, with support being provided from the nominee's departmental chair. The nomination package should be emailed the CSCI office and should contain two (2) letters of support and a current curriculum vitae. The curriculum vitae must include a business mailing address with a current email address. Deadline - Submissions are to be received by NOVEMBER 27, 2008. Selection Process - Review and prioritization of the nominations will be made by the CSCI Awards Committee and their recommendations will be forwarded to the CSCI Executive for ratification NOTE: NOMINATIONS AND CURRICULUM VITAES WILL BE HELD FOR CONSIDERATION UNTIL THE APPLICANT HAS REACHED HIS/HER 8TH YEAR OF INDEPENDENT ACADEMIC APPOINTMENT. Award and Presentation - The award consists of a free one-year membership to CSCI, a plaque and $1,000 cheque which will be presented to the recipient at the time of his or her lecture. The lecture, entitled The Joe Doupe Annual Lecture, will be on a subject of the Awardee's choice to be given during the CSCI conference. The recipient will also write an article for the CSCI Journal Clinical and Investigative Medicine. The CIM editor will contact with the winner to provide more details.
