MALCOLM BROWN LECTURE
TERMS
OF REFERENCE
HISTORY
The G. Malcolm Brown Lecture is an annual lecture supported by the G.
Malcolm Brown Memorial Fund that is currently administered by the Canadian
Institutes of Health Research. The G. Malcolm Brown Memorial Fund was
established in 1977 in honour of the late Dr. G. Malcolm Brown, former
President of the Medical Research Council from 1965 to 1977. The Fund
was created through donations from the medical and scientific community
as well as from friends and family. The Fund is intended to promote
excellence among Canadian scientists, particularly in the area of the
health sciences. A list of past awardees is available for information.
CRITERIA
The winner of this award must be a Canadian who has achieved excellence
in scientific or academic endeavours. The recipient of this award is
expected to deliver a major lecture at the 2009 CSCI Annual Conference
(date and venue TBA). The winner must be available to attend the conference.
PROPOSAL
MECHANISM
Individuals may be proposed by a CSCI member or other individual. The
full nomination package is to be submitted to the CSCI. This includes
the following:
- letters of support
from two (2) individuals
- a current curriculum
vitae (with complete business mailing address and current email)
- a two-page biography
DEADLINE
Submissions are to be received by MARCH 31, 2009.
SELECTION
PROCESS
Review and prioritization of the candidates will be made by the CSCI
Awards Committee, and their recommendations will be forwarded to the
CSCI Executive for ratification.
AWARD
AND PRESENTATION
The recipient of this award is expected to deliver a 45 minute lecture.
The subject should preferably relate to the theme of the Annual Conference
or be of broad topical interest, i.e. motivational, philosophical, or
scientific. The amount of the award will be $1,500 and will be presented
at the time of the lecture. Airfare, accommodation when required
