THE CAPM/CSCI CORE MEDICAL RESIDENTS RESEARCH AWARD

2009-2010 CALL FOR AWARD SUBMISSONS

CANADIAN ASSOCIATION OF PROFESSORS OF MEDICINE (CAPM)
CANADIAN SOCIETY FOR CLINICAL INVESTIGATION (CSCI)
CORE MEDICAL RESIDENTS RESEARCH AWARD 2010

Purpose

To recognize outstanding research by core medicine residents and thereby encourage their participation in research activities as well as to highlight the importance placed by Chairs of Medicine on participation in research as a component of the core medical training experience.

Eligibility
Residents will be nominated for the award by their Chair of Medicine, generally on the basis of a local research competition. The research project must have been undertaken during the core medical residency years. The resident must be a core medicine trainee at the time of submission of an abstract (PGY-1 to PGY-3). The supervisor of the research must be a member of the university faculty, but need not be a member of the Department of Medicine.

Nomination and Adjudication Process
Entry into the competition will require submission of an electronic abstract with a covering letter from the Chair of the Department of Medicine. Please submit the abstract to your Department Chair who should then e-mail it to the CSCI office. (electronic versions should be sent in MSWord format and be IBM compatible). Note that abstracts arriving without the endorsement of the Chair will not be accepted.

THE DEADLINE FOR RECEIPT OF ABSTRACTS IS JANUARY 29, 2010.

A resident can submit up to three abstracts. Should more than one abstract be chosen for presentation, only the top ranking abstract will qualify for presentation at the Annual Conference. TThe submissions will be reviewed, and eight abstracts will be selected for poster presentation during the Young Investigators Forum at the CSCI Annual Conference which will be held (tbd). From among the eight poster presentations, three winners will be selected – one basic/integrative, one epidemiological/outcomes and one educational research. The eight abstracts will be published in the journal Clinical and Investigative Medicine in the post-conference issue. The presenter must be in attendance at the CSCI Annual Conference in Ottawa and present the poster detailing the submitted abstract.

Costs of attending this meeting will be the responsibility of the sponsoring Department of Medicine and not the CAPM nor the CSCI. Recognition of the Finalists and Winners
The three winners will each receive a certificate of recognition, a one-year free membership in the CSCI, and a $500 cash prize.

The award presentations will be made at the CSCI Young Investigators Forum dinner during CSCI’s Annual Conference in Toronto held tbd.
